Amazon Best with the Month, September 2008: Once you commence Your Ex with all the Dragon Tattoo, there's no turning back. This debut thriller--the first inside a trilogy through the late Stieg Larsson--is a critical page-turner rivaling the absolute best of Charlie Huston and Michael Connelly. Mikael Blomkvist, a once-respected financial journalist, watches his professional life rapidly crumble around him. Prospects appear bleak until a critical (and unsettling) offer to resurrect his name is extended by an old-school titan of Swedish industry. The catch--and there's always a catch--is that Blomkvist must first spend annually researching a mysterious disappearance which includes remained unsolved for nearly four decades. With few others options, he accepts and enlists the help of investigator Lisbeth Salander, a misunderstood genius having a cache of authority issues. Little will be as it seems in Larsson's novel, but there's a minimum of one constant: you really don't want to mess with the girl using the dragon tattoo. --Dave Callanan
Starred Review. With its rich characterizations and intriguing plot, the first book from the late Stieg Larsson's completed trilogy, involving disgraced Swedish journalist-publisher Mikael Blomkvist along with the eponymous, pierced and tattooed, emotionally troubled young hacker-investigator Lisbeth Salander, clearly deserves the acclaim it's received overseas. Martin Wenner's almost indifferent, British-accented narration would seem an unusual choice for a novel filled up with passion, sex and violence, but since the oddly coupled Blomkvist and Salander probe the four-decade-old disappearance of Harriet Vanger, heiress to one of Sweden's wealthiest clans, the goal approach actually accentuates the ultimate behavior of both and also the strange subjects of the investigation. Wenner's calm, controlled manner aids the listener to keep track of the numerous members of the Vanger family, a task that this printed book simplifies with a reference page. A Knopf hardcover (Reviews, July 14). (Sept.)
